The largest of the four Inns of Court, Lincoln’s Inn is not only a thriving society for barristers and Bar students, but an impressive historical estate in the heart of London, an exceptional venue for private events and home to commercial and residential tenants. An in-depth audit drove our recommendation to deliver two new websites for the Society under one CMS, the first of which is primarily designed to serve the Inn’s 22,000-strong membership.
To coincide with a significant Development Project of the estate, we were commissioned to create two websites for Lincoln’s Inn. This website is first and foremost for their members but also a resource for the general public, and the other is a commercial website aimed at those looking to hire the Inn as a location for an event.
Following an in-depth audit across both websites, our recommendation was to deliver both sites under one CMS through shared development work while also establishing a different design aesthetic and user experience for each. In this way, the sites would be easily distinguishable as well as efficient to manage. We carried out a number of scoping exercises, workshops and meetings with the Lincoln’s Inn team. From here, we were able to design a site architecture and content user journeys to encourage members to revisit and trust the website as a source of information.
Lucy Bunt Project Manager The Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn
We found the team at Design Culture professional, approachable and efficient, from early on in the tender process through to delivery of our finished website. The new site has been met with a hugely positive response from all key stakeholders and members, and we'd like to thank the team at Design Culture for delivering an intuitive, clear and beautifully designed website for Lincoln's Inn.
The new main website is fresh, contemporary and easy to navigate. It is also simple to edit, with page templates built using a modular approach that affords the client flexibility in how they structure pages and house content. Features include a comprehensive What’s On section built using React JS and an online shop powered by Shopify. We art directed a number of photographic shoots to generate new imagery for the websites. As with all of the websites that we deliver, the sites are responsive across all devices and optimised for speed, making use of CDN technology from Cloudinary.
