Blue Square Residential Website Case Study

The new website is a simple, accessible WordPress website designed to communicate clearly with residents, families and support providers, meet regulatory requirements around tenant satisfaction measurement, reflect BSR’s professionalism, quality of delivery and track-record,  and provide a platform to both tell its story and showcase positive outcomes.

The new website marks a strategic turning point in the organisation’s journey, with BSR having a real need for its website to clearly position and communicate its purpose, offer and impact. Key audiences include tenants with a range of support needs, some of whom may need help from a support worker to access content, families and legal appointees seeking information, housing officers and support staff working with residents on-site, and strategic partners and regulators who need to understand the organisation’s offer, practice and compliance.

Strategic Discovery
Our discovery sessions focused not on functionality, but on purpose – who are our users and what information and experiences do we need to provide to them? How can we do that in a friendly and accessible way? What data to we need to gather for compliance?

We mapped out content needs by audience type, prioritising clarity, accessibility, and simplicity. We focused on organisational ambitions too – such as offering more structured digital spaces for policies and procedures, or showcasing partnership working with developers and local authorities – and strategic plans, to ensure the site we shaped would be future-proofed to support BSR’s growth.

Information Architecture
We developed a clear, flexible site structure to reflect BSR’s priorities, clean and clear navigation mapped directly to user needs, with scalability at its heart so it can easily accommodate future content and functionality additions.

Branding, UX/UI and content
With a limited visual identity, the website project was an opportunity to evolve BSR’s brand — developing a distinctive colour palette and typographic style to reflect its voice: transparent, thoughtful, and people-first. The resulting design is clean, accessible and warm, with clear hierarchy, flexible content blocks, and subtle micro-animations to enhance usability. The design system is built to grow, supporting future content and functionality as the organisation evolves.

Built in regulatory compliance
We delivered a fully accessible tenant feedback form using smiley-face ratings, optimised for use on tablets by support workers. Submissions feed into an analytics setup ready for audit and compliance, supporting BSR’s preparations for regulatory inspection.

The result
BSR’s new website is now central to positioning BSR for growth and greater impact – providing a single source of information for families, tenants and partners, it’s an engaging platform that meets regulatory requirements, and a foundation from which to share good news stories, designed with a human-first design approach and accessibility baked in.

What’s next?
The new site lays the foundation for a future second phase that will focus on deepening digital engagement, growing BSR’s online presence, and adding new tools and content for residents, families and partners.

Design Culture demonstrated exceptional creativity and technical expertise, delivering a site that is not only visually stunning but also highly functional. The entire process was smooth and collaborative, and they truly understood our vision and brought it to life.
